The Mitaka High-Technology Center is a cooperative association that was created in 1989 when twenty small companies from different industries in the city of Mitaka (western Tokyo) took advantage of a government incentive policy by coming together to construct a shared facility. Today, the Center’s high-tech members continue to share the various outstanding technologies they provide, forming a small-enterprise technology group that works to further the progress of science and technology while giving back to the community.
Thermo Riko moved to the Center from Tokyo’s Nerima ward in August 1997. The Mitaka area is home to several academic, industrial and high-tech organizations such as the International Christian University, University of Electro-Communications, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, and National Institute of Information and Communications Technology. The city also houses arts facilities such as the Ghibli Museum and Yuzo Yamamoto Memorial Museum.
